 Table Setting Tips

Preparing for your party

The overall mood of any party can be reflected in how you choose to set and decorate your table. To transform any everyday table into a festive one, just follow this check list, and you’ll be ready to enjoy food, friends and fun for any occasion!

Color Palette

The first step in creating the perfect table setting for any event is deciding on your theme and color palette, which will set the overall tone. Determine the mood of the event. Are you going for formal, fun or just festive? Is it a shower or holiday event? Get a general feel for the atmosphere you are trying to create. The select a color palette that will help you accomplish this goal.

Shape and Size of the Table

If you are celebrating at home, this step will be easy. Just determine which tables you will be using. Does your table accommodate all your guests, or will you need extra seating. However, if the party is at a different venue, be sure to check what is available and what items you will need to supply to them.

Table Linens

Finding the right size tablecloth can sometimes be challenging. At Carol & Company we are here to help you find just the right linens. A good starting point for casual or formal tablesetting is always high quality white or cream tones in cotton or linen for both your tablecloth and napkins.

We can help you with your linen needs from quality names like Mountain Weavers, Bodrum, Ulster Linens, Vera Bradley, Tag, Kaydee and Primitive Artisan.

Napkin fold

Next determine what napkins you want to use. Would you prefer cloth napkins or quality paper napkins? When using cloth napkins, which is a more tradition approach, select how and where you want to place them on the table. There are so many creative ways to fold your napkins. Below are a few ideas for you to try out for yourself.
Pyramid Napkin Fold
Diamond Napkin Fold
Cone Napkin Fold
Basic Napkin Ring Stuffer
Basic Silverware Pouch
Diamond Pouch
Lily Goblet Fold

High quality paper napkins, like the Caspari brand we carry, can help add a touch of color or interest to your table. For a more personal look, Carol & Company also carries custom napkins you can have your name or monogram or personalized for the event you are hosting.

Flatware, China and Stemware

Selecting your flatware, china and stemware will be determine by the tone of your event.

For example, to set a formal table you would want to use you fine china, silverware and crystal. But perhaps, you are going for a more festive fun table, you might select colored plates, or glasses, or even the LePrix flatware from Gingko.

For a more rustic table setting you may want to use your pottery and heavy glass tumblers, like those made by Denby, or stoneware from Casafina.

Whatever your theme or style, use what you have to create a unique tablesetting for your guests.

Flowers and Containers

The first step in creating the perfect centerpiece for your event is selecting the container. Often this requires thinking outside the box. Be as creative as you want to be, the container does not always have to be just a glass or crystal vase.

For example, use a teapot, or a pitcher for a more formal look. If you are trying to create a casual table, try a wine cooler or soup tureen for a different look, or use your seasonal items to give the festive atmosphere you are looking for. You can use any item you think would make a unique arrangement.

Flowers will often be determined for you by the time of year, your color palette, and the availability from your garden or local florist.

Another good tip to remember, a long table can often accommodate several smaller arrangements down the center, verses and round table which requires a larger single round arrangement. Have fun with the containers and flowers to help achieve the theme you are trying to create.

Lighting
Colonial Candle’s drip less tapers are always appropriate for any event. They are available in a variety of sizes and shades to match any color palette.

Always remember, when placing candles in a grouping to use odd numbers for the best look. Votive candle and tea lights are also available to help create just the right atmosphere for your event.

Place Cards, Menu & Table Number Cards

Whether you are hosting a small intimate dinner party or your daughters wedding, place cards can add that extra special touch to any table setting. At Carol & Company we offer a variety of place cards, and we can print them for you to help you create the look you are going for.

Menu cards can also be an added feature to any gourmet meal or large event.

Table number cards are only necessary for bigger gatherings, so your guests can find their assigned tables easily. We now offer a new program that allows you to create your perfect seating chart to impress your guests.

Favors

Favors can always be added to any event to give your guests something to remember what a wonderful time they had. It can be as simple as a tasty treat to take home, or something to relate to your theme.

For example, try tying an ornament to your folded napkin for your next holiday dinner party. This will help decorate your table and give your guests something to take home with them.

  Enjoy!
Now you that you have created the perfect table setting; sit back and relax until your guests arrive and enjoy your event!
